X.GPSTM
this program allows you to exchange your and your friends geographic positions,
between a various mobile devices. Each device takes all positions and displays on one screen,
where you can observe where and how far all others are, at the moment.

The following versions are available now:
Pocket PC and Windows Mobile,
Windows Mobile phone,
Windows Smartphone,
and MS Origami UMPC.

You need:

  • any Windows Mobile phone (this incl. Pocket PC phones and Smartphones)
  • or any MS Origami, UMPC device
  • external or built-in GPS receiver
  • connection to Internet of the above device (this incl. Wifi, GPRS, UMTS)
(you connect UMPC by any external phone dial-up)
  • some Internet server with simple page where all positions are collected

All versions are compatible, this means you can exchange positions
between Windows Mobile devices, MS Smartphones, or MS Origami devices, in any combination.

This is example of screenshot (click to see in original scale):
    Detailed descriptions are below.

    X.GPS works in this way:

  • you connect your device to Internet (any way)
  • you connect your device to GPS receiver (any way)
  • X.GPS takes your GPS position and uploads it to Internet server automatically
  • then X.GPS read the server reply, where all other positions are
  • all received positions are displaying on the screen relative to each others, with calculated distances

    Possible scenarios of using:

    1. Windows Mobile phone with built-in GPS receiver

  • set the internal GPS receiver to work
  • establish any data connection to Internet: Wifi, GPRS or UMTS
  • launch X.GPS

    2. Windows Mobile phone + external GPS receiver

  • establish any connection to GPS receiver: wire, Bluetooth
  • set GPS receiver to work with any serial port
  • establish any data connection to Internet: Wifi, GPRS or UMTS
  • launch X.GPS

    3. Windows Mobile + any cellular phone + ext. GPS receiver

  • establish any connection to GPS receiver: wire, Bluetooth
  • set GPS receiver to work with any serial port
  • establish any data connection to Internet in external phone
  • establish any connection to your external phone
  • set the data connection to work, mostly it's Dial-up type
  • launch X.GPS

    4. MS Origami + ext. phone + ext. built-in GPS receiver

  • Internet server:
Each device sends geographic positions to the dedicated Internet server.
This server collects (saves) positions and reply to each device with all know positions. You don't have to set a special server service or know/learn something special. This is an ordinary web server with popular PHP service, and only one small file which receives and manages all daily positions.
We provide you this file. The only thing you have to do: copy this file to your server and write the patch to this file on every device with X.GPS (you can change this file name).

    Advantages:

  • you can exchange positions between any devices, and any above scenarios; both versions of program and using scenarios are compatible and works together
  • in some limited cases, you can exchange positions without Internet server, by SMS messages; in this case you have to write all destination numbers and when your device updates your position it sends it to all devices at once; of course, SMS messages cost much more than GPRS of Wifi connection

    Features:

  • program can receive and display maximum 25 points (positions) at one time
  • program can upload your position automatically, or you can do it manually
  • positions older than 24 hours are not visible (and deleted on server automatically)
  • distance and speed values are displayed in Metric, Imperial or Nautical units
  • one selected point displays details of positions, you can select any point
  • scale of view (the range of distance visibled) is calculated automatically
  • you can set the fixed scale to various distances
  • World's directions are moving when you rotate in place
  • your current position, speed of moving, and compass are displaying
  • on MS Origami screen 800x480, Windows Mobile, and Smartphone, X.GPS opens in fullscreen mode
  • to access the menu: tap-and-hold a while, on any free space of screen
